It's summer fête and fayre season in Britain and what better way to embrace the season than with some summery fête prize ribbons. Use them to decorate, give them to your amazing friends or use them on gift wrapping. I'd personally love to receive a gift adorned with a fancy fabric ribbon like one of these!
They're super easy to make, and are a good way to use up small scraps.
Supplies
- Fabric scraps and ribbons (the more assorted the better)
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Stapler
- Needle and thread/embroidery floss
- Thin cardboard
STEP 1: Make the rosette
Start with a long strip of fabric. The one I used is about 30cm by 5cm. Thread your needle and start sewing a very loose running stitch along one side of the fabric. Once you're through to the other side, simply gather the fabric along the thread and tie the two ends together. This will pull the fabric into a circular shape.
STEP 2: Cut your ribbon tails
Cut 2 rectangles of fabric that is around 22cm by 6cm and snip out a triangle from one end. You can fancy up your prize ribbon by adding a few layers of tails or other ribbons. Here I used a mix of fabric and ribbon.
STEP 3: Make a centrepiece for your ribbon
You can use buttons, fabric covered cardboard or decorate cardboard circles with embroidered motifs.
STEP 4: Now it's time to put it all together
Staple the ribbon tails together and use your hot glue gun to attach the ribbon centrepiece onto the rosette and glue the ribbon tails to the back of the rosette.
